One day a weak, old sheikh went to Rasulullah(SAW). He complained that he was hungry, and had no clothes. Rasulullah (SAW) told the sheikh that he had nothing to give him and sent him with Bilal to Maulatuna Fatema’s(SA) house. When they reached the house of Maulatuna Fatema(SA) they prayed salaam. She answered and asked the sheikh who he was and what he wanted. The sheikh said that he was hungry and had no clothes. He requested Maulatuna Fatema(SA) to give him something. Maulatuna Fatema(SA) went inside and brought a piece of animal skin upon which Imam Hasan(SA) and Imam Husain(SA) slept. The sheikh said that the animal skin would not help him in his hunger. At that instance she removed her pearl necklace and gave it to him to sell.
The sheikh went to Rasulullah (SAW) and related how the necklace was given to him by Maulatuna Fatema(SA) who told him to sell it and gain barakat. Rasulullah's(SAW) eyes filled with tears as he told the sheikh, “ How can there not be barakat in this, for it was given to you by Fatema”.
At that time Ammar bin Yasir stood up saying “I will buy it from you, what do you wish for it?” The sheikh answered that he wanted meat, bread, a Yemeni shawl and some dinars so that he would be able to return to his hometown. Ammar gave him 20 dinars and 100 dirhams, meat, bread and his ride. The sheikh told Rasulullah (SAW) that Maulatuna Fatema’s(SA) necklace had made him rich. Rasulullah (SAW) asked the sheikh to pray for her, which he did.
Rasulullah (SAW) narrated the virtues of Maulatuna Fatema(SA). Hearing this Ammar put musk on the necklace, wrapped it in a Yemeni shawl and gifted it to Rasulullah (SAW) along with a slave. When the slave narrated what had happened, Rasulullah (SAW) gifted all of this to Fatema(SA). Maulatuna Fatema(SA) accepted the gift, took the necklace and freed the slave. The freed slave returned to Rasulullah (SAW) very happy. When Rasulullah (SAW) asked him why he was so happy he said that the barakat of Maulatuna Fatema’s (SA) necklace had made him happy. The necklace had:
- Fed the hungry
- Made the poor rich
- Freed a slave
- And was returned to its owner.
