Interview

Dr Hussain Soaeb Rangwala, (NKD)

Tell us about your education and your career…
Currently I am into Research & Development in a medical device company in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA and hold a Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from State University of New York (SUNY) as wells as Masters in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from SUNY. I must admit that getting into Mechanical engineering was not an intentional choice, Aqa Maula (TUS) ni dua mubarak si, it just happened.
I chose to pursue Doctorate in biomedical engineering and medical device development with an aim to make a difference in people’s lives while staying abreast with exciting research and technology.

What are your latest inventions and your plans for the future?

During my doctorate studies, I focused on inventing devices and treatment techniques for Neurovascular Treatment of Cerebral Stroke. My inventions currently involve devices used in the treatment of peripheral disease and mathematical algorithms for x-ray image enhancement.

Aqa Maula (TUS) says, “Vepaar no koi paar nathi ane ema ghani barakat che” therefore my future plans include starting a medical device company that offers unique treatment solutions for hard-to-treat diseases

Give us an insight on how much technology has changed the scope of medicine and is it always for the better?

Technology in medicine represents both progress and threat. The reason I say this is because medical technology today is not limited to state-of-the-art hospitals with sophisticated devices, it has extended into various kinds of innovative treatment modalities. Similarly, computers, digitization, smart biomaterials, and fundamental laboratory research have also revolutionalized the practice of medicine. Even then, technological development fails to provide consistent risk free treatment. This significantly increases patient anxiety about consequences of medical intervention.

Technology may not always be for the better, because the innovations in the field are based on the amount of information and knowledge available at that point of time. Breakthrough research enables development and improvement, which renders a state-of-the-art treatment obsolete in no time. This in a way poses a question of adequacy on every treatment method currently practiced, where a patient faces a dilemma to choose or to wait for the next wave of technological development. In some cases, it takes a full circle, where a long lost treatment modality becomes the gold standard due to some amazing discovery. All these things introduce a fair amount of ambiguity, and decision making in times of peril becomes a momentous task. We mumineen are fortunate to be the followers of our Bawa Shafiq (TUS) because in times of doubt Aqa Maula (TUS) guides us with absolute knowledge where no research and development is necessary.

Khuda taala hamara Aqa Maula (TUS) ni umr shareef Khuda taala hamara Aqa Maula (TUS) ni umr shareef ni sehat taama aafiyat kaamela na husno jamaal ma ba salaamat, ta qayamaat daraaz ane daraaz karey. Amin

Can your work and inventions help in the khidmat of dawat, if so how?

My intentions like all my fellow mumineen are always to perform khidmat of dawat. I have asked myself the same question many times at various stages of my life. I have categorized three broad ways in which a person like me can perform khidmat of dawat, through innovations and problem solving, through scientific knowledge sharing and finally through business development by the raza and dua mubarak of Aqa Maula (TUS).

Through innovations and problem solving, unique solutions for performing our daily shariat tasks with relative ease, automation in massive jamaat tasks, social networking, and database development, can be implemented. Through scientific knowledge sharing, I can contribute in development of a clinical database about success levels of various treatment methods and medical devices used. This will help mumineen in making informed decisions and relieve their anxiety. Through business, development by the raza mubarak of Aqa Maula (TUS) a medical device company run by mumineen professionals can be initiated and advanced. This will empower economic growth, and allow khidmat with jaan and maal, similarly it will also permit a communion between mumineen that can contribute for the progress of the company.

What would your advice be to young kids going into technology?

Just remember that technological advancement is a moving target. More knowledge you have about something the more you appreciate how little you really know about it, so thrive on always being a student.

Tell us about your experiences/sentiments about Aqa Maula (TUS), especially when he visited the east coast?

I consider myself fortunate to be born a mumin and to be blessed by the gulami of our Maula whose daman, jena daaman si laagi ne main mari zindagi sukoon si jeevi saku chu.

I vividly remember that 5 of us (fellow students) (1 from India, 1 from Pakistan, 1 from Africa, 1 from Kuwait and 1 from Dubai) had rented a car and we all drove to New Jersey for Aqa Maula (TUS) arrival and waaz. It was an amazing experience, I clearly remember when Aqa Maula (TUS) arrived directly from the airport, it was nostalgic. Overall the entire experience is inscribed in my mind and the 2 biggest take home lessons I took away were 1) It does not matter where we live, Aqa Maula (TUS) is always with us. 2) It does not matter where we come from we are all always one.

Khuda taala hamara Aqa Maula (TUS) ni umr shareef ni sehat taama aafiyat kaamela na husno jamaal ma ba salaamat, ta qayamaat daraaz ane daraaz karey. Amin

There has been a tremendous change in mumineen in terms of aqida in the last few years. Tell us about it and how do you think that has come about?

Aqida in mumineen has flourished exponentially in the past decade and keeps growing at a phenomenal rate and inshallah will keep growing. It seems that seeds sowed by Duat Mutlaqeen (RA) are finally bearing fruits and the prayers are being answered.

I think the development and strengthening of aqida in mumineen has mostly come along by self realization. We, mumineen have finally started realizing what we were missing and how we can by staying on Siratil Mustaqim tap the source of hidden power and mental freedom

Through my years of education, experience and research, I have realized how little we know and we have based our technological development only on relative understanding of things. There are millions of things that can go wrong and it is a miracle that things work as they do. I reiterate absolute knowledge without doubt resides with haq na saheb Aqa Maula (TUS)
