Pearls of Wisdom
The sixth of Moharram al Haram is dedicated to the zikr of RasulullahSAW. It is the beginning of the zikr of Panjatan Paak, culminating in the narration of the martyrdom of Imam Husain AS on Ashura. Today we received the sharaf of listening to the waaz mubarak of Syedna Mohammed BurhanuddinRA from the years 1406 Hijri and 1397 Hijri as well as listening to excerpts from the bayan of Syedna Taher SaifuddinRA.
SyednaRA explained the history of RasulullahSAW. RasulullahSAW established Islam by the revelation from Allah. He endured many trials and tribulations in the path of spreading Islam. Referring to his many tests RasulullahSAW stated:
انا ابن الكرار ممتحن الاوقات.
Once, Maulana Abu TalibAS, who was fostering RasulullahSAW, asked him to suspend his efforts of spreading Islam due to the constant threat of Banu Umayyah. RasulullahSAW replied with tears in his eyes: Even if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left, I will never cease to work for this cause! Maulana Abu TalibAS tested Rasulullah in this moment and after seeing Rasulullah’s dedication to Islam he assured him: Do what you must. I shall always assist you!
In the efforts to spread Islam, RasulullahSAW gathered forty men from the descendants of Abd al MuttalibAS. He offered them the position of his Wasi and promised them prosperity in this world and the hereafter. No one answered, until Amir al Mumineen Maulana AliAS, the youngest person that day, replied by saying: I will be your Wasi! Rasulullah SAW accepted and declared Maulana AliAS his Wasi. After seeing this, Abu Lahab mocked Maulana Abu TalibAS that he had been superseded by his son.
Maulana AliAS was the first person to answer Rasulullah’sSAW call to Islam. For several years, RasulullahSAWand Maulana AliAS would pray namaz on the streets of Makkah alone. On one such occasion, Maulana Abu TalibAS accompanied by his son Maulana Jafar al TayyarAS saw RasulullahSAW praying namaz, with Maulana AliAS by his side. He instructed Maulana AliAS to always assist RasulullahSAW and told Maulana Jaffar al TayyarAS to pray beside Maulana Ali AS.
RasulullahSAW built Islam on the foundation of the previous shariats brought by the Prophets before him. Allah states in the Quran: And ask those (Prophets) we have sent before you. Did we ever appoint gods to be worshipped beside Allah?
Maulana AliAS was questioned about this verse: How is it possible for RasulullahSAW to ask the Prophets when he was not present during their lifetimes? Maulana AliAS replied that: On the night of Israa, RasulullahSAW was accompanied by Jibraeel when they passed a stream of water. Jibreel performed ablution and asked RasulullahSAW to do the same, he then escorted him forward and asked him to lead the prayers. He also requested him to recite the qira’at loudly as there were so many Anbiya and angels behind him that only Allah knew their count. Present in the first row was AdamAS, NoohAS, IbrahimAS, MoosaAS and IsaAS. At that time Allah revealed this verse: And ask those (Prophets) we have sent before you. Did we ever appoint gods to be worshipped beside Allah? RasulullahSAW turned around and questioned the Prophets about what Allah had just revealed to him. The Anbiya, in reply, gave Shahadat for Allah, RasulullahSAW and AliAS.
RasulullahSAW endured threats, mockery and isolation but never wavered from the propagation of Islam, establishing every tenet of Islam with dedication and perfection. He taught muslimeen to perform taharat, salaat, zakah, saum, hajj and jihad. RasulullahSAW continued to spread the tenets of Islam until finally he reached the last tenet, walayat. By conferring nass on Amir al MumineenAS in Ghadeer e Khum, RasulullahSAW rendered Islam complete.
Allah Ta’ala states in the Quran: Surely the (true) religion for Allah is Islam. Islam means surrendering to the will of Allah and his Prophet, making walayat, or love, the most important tenet of Islam. Without love, one cannot truly surrender to someone. Just as Allah states: If you truly love Allah, then abide by me, and Allah will love you.
During these days of Ashara Mubaraka, mumineen have gathered around the world for the matam and buka because of the muhabbat for Imam HusainAS and his DaiTUS. Matam and buka is the essence of all the tenets of Islam, making it the true path to salvation. As RasulullahSAW states: The one who weeps, or makes others weep, or tries to weep on my son Husain will attain Jannah!
