Pearls of Wisdom

7th Moharram, 1447H

Today’s waaz mubarak began with the description of مريخ, the third celestial body after Zohl and Mushtari. Mirrikh is known as Behram in Farsi and Mars in English. It is often seen as inauspicious as it is tasked with managing and limiting the effects of harmful elements. But, as MaulaTUS explained, it is not surprising that the police are seen as inauspicious by thieves.

Mirrikh was viewed as a source of protection in ancient Rome. Its celestial duties include trapping harmful elements. Its influence raises bravehearts, warriors and protectors.

RasulullahSAW refrained from exposing the munafeqeen in order to limit the harm they could cause muslimeen. But when he was assured that Islam was now safe and muslimeen were ideologically stronger he conferred nass on Maulana AliAS

Similarly, Syedna Taher SaifuddinRA did not expose the Manahis in al Jamea tus Saifiyah. But when Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA ascended the throne and mumineen had become stronger in their beliefs, he expelled the Manahis and cleansed al Jamea.

Islam has made haram the consumption of anything that harms man. Because such items contain harmful elements that not only harm the body but also ruin the ideology and beliefs of anyone who consumes them. Alcohol is one such haram element. RasulullahSAW has stated that alcohol is the mother of all evil.

MaulaTUS narrated an anecdote about a pious man who had spent his entire life in piety and worship. He resided next to a promiscuous woman but had always managed to stave off her advances.  One day, the woman tricked him into visiting her at her home. Once he was inside, she locked the door and gave him four choices: if he accepted any one of those, she would let him go. The woman brought a platter which had the Quran, a baby and alcohol. He was given a choice between burning the Quran, killing the child, having illicit relations with her or drinking three glasses of alcohol. The pious man weighed all the options and decided that drinking alcohol seemed the least of the evils. But the moment he drank 3 glasses, he was intoxicated and kept asking for more. Not only that, but one by one he also committed the other three evils.

MaulaTUS urged mumineen, and especially children to stay away from such haram items and save their body and soul from corruption.

ZOHRA (VENUS)

Zohra is the fifth celestial body which is known as Anahil in Farsi and Venus in English. Zohra is called the Bride of the Sun (عرس الشمس). The sun of faith is Amir al Mumineen and Maulatuna Fatema is the bride.

Zohra is responsible for making the earth bloom like an evergreen garden. People of prosperity and women are born in the influence of Zohra.

Just like Zohra, women bring bloom and zeenat to a man’s life: the zeenat of women lies in concealing themselves in the cloak of modesty. Amir al mumineen states: He who wears the cloak of modesty saves himself from criticism.

Maulatona FatemaAS argued for Maulana AliAS before the congregation of adversaries, but she never compromised on her purdah or her modesty.

Similarly, Maulatona Hurrah al Maleka was the queen and she ran a successful empire. But, just as Maulatona FatemaAS, she too never compromised on her purdah or her modesty. She imparted ilm to Duat Mutlaqeen, but through a curtain.

The relationship of Ali and Fatema is exemplary. Once, Maulatona FatemaAS wasn’t feeling well and she craved to consume a pomegranate. Maulana AliAS went to the market, borrowed money and bought a pomegranate. But, on the way home he met a shaikh who had fallen on the ground due to starvation. The shaikh was starving since 5 days and he craved to eat pomegranates. Maulana AliAS gave him the pomegranate and headed home dejected. When Maulatona FatemaAS saw this, she immediately embraced him and said: The moment you gave the pomegranate to the shaikh I was cured and now I don’t crave pomegranates anymore. At that very moment there was a knock on the door. Salman had brought a tray with 9 pomegranates: he explained that this was a reward from Allah to his Rasool and from his Rasool to AliAS. Maulana Ali replied: If these are for me there should be 10 pomegranates. Salman revealed the tenth pomegranate he had concealed in his sleeve and said that he hid the pomegranate to reveal the virtue of AliAS.

Once Maulatona FatemaAS went to RasululullahSAW to grieve about her circumstances. RasulullahSAW narrated the virtues of Maulana AliAS. FatemaAS was pleased and returned to Maulana AliAS and informed him about what Rasulullah had said for him. Maulana Ali promptly replied: All this is by the grace of Allah. But your presence is more valuable to me than any of this!

MaulaTUS stated that there are 7 duties that a man should fulfil for his spouse:

  1. Keep his wife with him where he resides
  2. Never harm her
  3. Not be tight-fisted
  4. Provide her garments
  5. Spend on her as per his capacity
  6. Refrain from hitting her
  7. Cure her weakness

May we imbibe these virtues in ourselves by following the seerat of AliAS and FatemaAS.
