Maseeh ibne Maryam AS

مسيح ابن مريم

Maulatana Maryam al Azraa AS and Maulatana Hurratul Maleka RA are two venerated and noble women in our history – separated in history by nearly one thousand years, both Maulaat were steadfast in their service of Imam al Zaman AS and devout servants of Maulatana Fatema AS and Ahl Bayt AS. And, they were both mothers – the mother of Eesaa Nabi SA and the mother of Duat Mutlaqeen RA.

Maulatana Maryam al-Azra AS, the mother of Eesaa Nabi AS, was given good tidings by Allah Ta’ala as the birth of Eesaa Nabi AS drew closer – who conveyed to her that her son will become a maseeh, one who will be a sign to mankind and mercy from Allah Ta’ala. She was directly responsible for the tarbiyat and upbringing of Eesaa Nabi AS, who was then appointed by the Imam to lead. During his lifetime, Eesaa Nabi AS and his Apostles (Hawaariyeen) established a new faith and called the Children of Israel (Bani Israel), toward sirat-al-mustaqeem. Maulatana Maryam’s AS piety was instilled in her son Eesaa Nabi AS.

Similarly, in the history of our dawat, Maulatana Hurratul Maleka RA stands out prominently in her role as the mother of Duat Mutlaqeen AS, a hujjat of Imam Amir AS, the Queen of Yemen, and a learned scholar and writer. She too was a servant of the mother of Aimmat Tahereen AS, Maulatana Fatema AS, who swept the floors of Maulatana Fatema’s AS home. Most notable was her leadership in the establishment of the seat of Dai al-Mutlaq to ensure that each Dai and his appointed successor was equipped and ready to lead and protect the dawat of Ahl Bayt AS.

Maseeh ibne Maryam AS was one of the names given to Eesaa Nabi AS; he had the divine ability to prepare his successor to take the helm of dawat and continue to call people toward Allah. The Quran states:

Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA explained the essence of this aayat: with the raza of Allah Ta’ala, I [Eesaa Nabi AS] will prepare one of my followers, breathe into him the ruh of succession and ready him to lead the people. This is the shaan of Maseeh, son of Maulatana Maryam AS.

Duat Mutlaqeen RA epitomize the brilliance of maseeh; Maulatana Hurratul Maleka RA – the mother of Duat Mutlaqeen RA – embodies the luminosity of Maulatana Maryam ASMaseeh’s mother. Maultana Hurratul Maleka RA groomed her children and prepared them to run the dawat of Ahl Bayt in the Imam’s AS stead, and to continue to lead mumineen until such time that the Imam AS performs zuhoor. The first of the Dai-al-satr Syedna Zoeb RA– in the same light as Maseeh ibne Maryam AS, identified one amongst his followers that he prepared and appointed as his successor – Syedna Ibrahim RA. Each Dai, one after another, embodies the shaan of maseeh; by the ilhaam – divine direction – of Imam al Zaman AS, he prepares his successor, breathing into him the ruh of succession (nass), to ensure that the chain of continuity, the passage, and the protection of Ahl Bayt’s AS knowledge and dawat, remains unbroken. Today, we see the shaan of maseeh brought to life by Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA in his mansoos, Syedna Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS. Through our Maula TUS, we receive the invaluable bounties of Ahl Bayt’s AS knowledge; and, especially during Ashara Mubaraka, the divine calling toward Imam Husain’s AS lamentation.
